My Reviews

Less than Zero

In all of the previous Less than Zero books, Fiona has been an almost shadowy figure. We see glimpses of her and there were hints that there might be something between her and Zane, but that's all they were, hints. I wasn't sure if I was going to take to her as a character, simply because I'd seen so little of her. When it came to Fiona and Zane's story though, that didn't matter, it was clear that they were going to be together one way or another and that was the way that it was supposed to be.
Zane and Fiona are best friends from when they are small children. Although they always remain close, the pressures that their parents put them under, due to their own mistakes and issues mean that for much of the time they are kept apart. It seems throughout their life, things are working against them to stop them from being together. Perhaps all that really means is that they stay apart until they are truly ready to be together properly, but it all takes a toll on them as people and individually.
This is a love story and so you can expect that they get their happy ending and it is a satisfying one. Having said that, there was one element that I wasn't happy with. Fiona's mother is emotionally abusive. Once she is old enough Fiona leaves her, but later in the story, there is a reconciliation of sorts. I just don't think that her mother deserved that in any way. I certainly wouldn't be allowing my children to have a relationship with someone like that and I was disappointed that it all seemed to be explained away and accepted that she was just being a protective parent.
Overall this was a great read and a fantastic way to wrap up the Less Than Zero series. I believe that we've got some spinoffs to come and I'm looking forward to reading them.

Less than Zero Encore

I have to admit that of all of the Less than Zero couples, Zane and Fiona were my least favourite. Before I read their first book (Encore), I didn't like Fiona. I warmed to her throughout that book, but she still wasn't great. This second instalment changed all that. I thought it was really well done and I enjoyed the development of her character and her relationship with Zane.
In this encore book, Fiona is battling with her weight, she's also trying to establish her own business as something separate to Zane. I don't know if I fully buy the reasons that she doesn't open her business on time. To be honest, if you're really going to cut it in the restaurant world, let alone aim for a Michelin Star, then you have to be able to ignore everything else and just crack on with it. Deal with the real world later. It doesn't really matter though as that was something that drove the story on.
I've enjoyed all of these encore books, I've often thought that some romances are a little too simplistic, no matter what issues the characters are dealing with, it's all fixed by the end. This book shows that this isn't always the case, but we still get our HEA.
I really enjoyed the whole LTZ series. A great read.

My Reviews

Fearless

Fearless tells the story of Connor and Ronni. Like the previous book in the Less than Zero series that I have read, this book takes place over a long period of time, with the timeline flitting backwards and forwards as we learn more about their story. Although this is part of a series, you don't have to have read the others, although the characters do reappear and feature in each of the stories.
I really enjoyed this story. The connection between Ronni and Connor is strong and deep, even if it isn't always easy or straightforward, when is love ever? It also is much more than this. With elements of #metoo and some of the awful things that stars and want to be stars are sometimes subjected to in order to achieve their dreams. Ronni is an incredibly strong and determined character, and you can't help but cheer her on, even when it's at the expense of the sweethearted Connor.
This was a fantastic read and I'd love to read more in this gripping series.

Fearless Encore

What I love about this series is that although these couples belong together and are happy, there's also the acknowledgement that perhaps some things aren't an easy fix. We had the beginning of each couple's love stories in the first four books, but now, with the encores, we get to see what happens next. Just because a couple belongs together and has the right chemistry, it doesn't mean that everything is always perfect.
For Ronnie and Connor, it's a case of dealing with the pressures of fame. Caught up in the horror of sexual abuse in her teenage years, Ronnie is still facing the consequences of calling all of that out. For Connor, it's more a case of finding ways to support his wife's career while his own is falling apart.
This was a great read. the #metoo movement and the experience of what women faced at the hands of some of the movie executives are here as well as the juggle of trying to be both a mother and a career woman.
I love Ronnie and Connor as a couple and really enjoyed this encore to their relationship story. A great read.

My Review

I do enjoy a good rockstar romance and this one certainly falls into that category. Natasha Bernard used to be married to Mephisto's frontman, but despite swearing off rock god types forever, she's always been drawn to his bandmate control freak guitarist Richard Mac.
Both Richard and Natasha believe that they can't do relationships and that all that they can really have is a fling. There's also the added problem of Natasha's past with Richard's best friend. If they are going to find their way together and to the most important relationship that either of them has ever had, then they need to deal with all of this and be completely honest with one another.
I liked both Richard and Natasha and think that they work well together. Although their feelings and the relationship move fast, these two have a history, even if it is as something far from being lovers previously.
Natasha has always been seen as a femme fatal, an image that she has hated and that she feels is fake. With Richard she finds that the can really embrace whoever she wants to be and isn't at all worried about the rest of the world.
I really enjoyed this romance and would be certainly interested in reading other books in the series.

My Review

I often wonder what happens to a couple that you follow in a book, once the book comes to an end. Endless Encore takes Ty and Zoey's story and takes us on the journey of what comes next. I have to admit that after reading Endless, I wasn't totally sold on Ty and Zoey, just because they were a little immature and needed to grow up a bit I think. This story gives them the chance to do just that and prove that they really do belong together.
This story deals with some pretty dark themes and ideas, but it's handled well and sensitively. I really liked the development of Zoey and Ty's relationship here and thought that it was really well done. It's clear from some of the things that are mentioned in this book that there's also more to come from the rest of the band. I'm looking forward to seeing how their stories unfold as well.

Wild for me - Tam DeRudder Jackson

Wild For Me
Tam DeRudder Jackson
(Balefire Series, #3)
Publication date: November 18th 2021
Genres: Adult, New Adult, Romance

Dakota

Annabelle Stewart, all tight leather skirt and hot lace panties, thundered into my life for one night after a rock show and calmly drove away the next day. She should have been like any other one-night stand I’ve had over the last ten years touring with Balefire. But she wasn’t. At odd moments, I catch myself thinking about her, wondering if I made as big an impression on her as she did on me.

Then I walk into the rehearsal for our drummer’s wedding, and who’s standing with the bride? The hottie who keeps me awake with thoughts of our one night together. Beautiful, smart, and sassy as hell, Annabelle sets me on fire with her kisses and leaves me hanging. But I’ve got plans for her.

Annabelle

I never expected to see him again. Two years after hooking up with Dakota Perri after a Balefire concert, I’d convinced myself that night was a fantasy. But the way he looks at me during Jack and Clio’s wedding, like he remembers every second of our one-night stand, lights me up. Too bad I blew it.

Then I score a management internship with the band, an opportunity guaranteed to land me a scholarship with a top graduate program—if I don’t earn a reputation for sleeping my way to success. Which is a problem. I see Dakota every day. Every time we’re together, the sparks fly faster and hotter. If I want to achieve my goals, I have to resist him. But how can I resist a man as panty-meltingly hot as Dakota Perri when he says he’s wild for me?

My Review

This is the second book in the Balefire series that I've read, but the third book in that series. You don't need to have read the previous books as each one works well as a standalone. (Having said that, there has been a character in both books I have read that causes problems and I don't really understand why they keep him around, perhaps some reason for that was given in the first book or will be in the next.)
Annabelle and Dakota hooked up a couple of years ago after a concert and although they never saw one another again, neither could get the other out of their mind. Now, Annabelle is working as an intern for the management of the band and as much as she wants to keep things on a professional footing between them, she just can't resist him. They both think that what's happening between them is just a temporary thing, even if no one else does.
I did like the development of the relationship between Dakota and Annabelle. She matches his wild side, but also gives him the security and stability he's always wanted, even if he didn't realise that.
This was a fun read and if you enjoy rock romances, then I think that you will like this one too.

Sing For Me
Tam DeRudder Jackson
(Balefire Series, #2)
Publication date: August 26th 2021
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Blu

My entire life is my music—and all the trappings that come with it. Sex, booze, and rock ’n’ roll is all I ever wanted. Touring the world as the lead singer of Balefire, I have it all. Until on hiatus, I meet the girl next door.

Ashleigh Baker is nothing like the groupies and celebrities who usually have all my attention. In her cute floppy hat with her knees stained with dirt, she spends her days creating a flowering show piece from her rented yard. She’s the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever met, and she acts like she doesn’t want a damn thing to do with me. But from the moment I laid eyes on her, she’s all I can think about.

Ashleigh

Growing up the only child of an Air Force Colonel, all I wanted was to stay in one place for more than a minute. When I score a pretty little house with a long-term lease, I just want to grow my flowers and my freelancing gig as a music reviewer. Then a loud Harley wakes me from a sound sleep and I discover my neighbor is Blu Connolly. Yeah, that Blu Connolly, lead singer for my favorite band Balefire. With his killer good looks and panty-melting voice, he’s a walking temptation to sin. Though I do my best to avoid him, it seems Blu has other ideas. He’s on a mission to wear me down, let him in, but what happens when he stops wanting to sing for me?

My Review

Rockstar romances can be a bit of a mixed bag. It usually involves a hero that has already managed to sleep his way through a huge amount of female fans. While our hero here does fall into that category, our heroine doesn't meet him in that way. Instead, she is fully aware of his status as a musician and for a bad that she loves, but living next to his mother means that she meets him in his more 'normal' persona.
This was an entertaining romance and did well juggling the famous rock star with the side of his personality that wants to more conventional romantic life, once he meets the woman for him.
There were a few things that I felt were left a little unresolved by the end of the story. None of these was a major plot point. (Having said that, we don't really find out if there is any consequences for the person who tries to come between them.) I do wonder if this is because this is part of a series and we will find out more about some aspects of the band's life when we see the other band members stories.
Overall this was an entertaining read that I enjoyed. I'd be keen to read more in the series and follow the bad for a bit longer.

My Review

Limitless is the second book in the Less Than Zero series, a contemporary romance series that follows the members of a rock band. There is clearly a crossover between each of the books, but this one works fine as a standalone novel, which is how I read it. That said, I really enjoyed it and was intrigued enough about the glimpses of the characters that appeared in the first book, that I'd like to go back and read that one. I'd also like to read the next books in the series.
The romance between our main characters Jace and Alex takes place over a long period of time. We first meet them when Jace is 23 and Alex 18. He's reluctant to get involved with her because of the age difference, (although it's not really much of a difference really, so I think he's just being a bit silly) and also because their band is about to go off on tour. Their romance progresses, at intervals over the next 7 years or so. Never really able to be together, due to her dreams and career and his commitments to the band.
Jace is a very sweet character, although he still manages to live the rock star. There aren't attempts to hide the fact of them have different partners over the years that they are apart. It takes a while for them to finally find their way to one another, but I was gripped with the unfolding story, keen to discover how they were finally going to reach their happily ever after. This was a good read and one I thoroughly enjoyed.
